ECO 165 with Olsen
I was going through instructors, eliminating the instructors that I want to avoid and the one that I want to take for FA04.
So far, R. Hoppes is the less hulk-like instructor for ECO 165. The rest seems to throw too much material at the student.
Anyway, has anyone had R. Olson for Economics? If so, what did you think of this instructor?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hoppes is ok. I'm an Economics minor and I dropped his ECO 450 class because he was covering stuff that I had absolutely no clue about (like microecon charts). He might cover it in ECO 165. I don't know anything about Olsen, but you might want to check www.ratemyprofessor.com and www.rateyourprofessor.net. They have professor ratings on them, so they might help you.
Thanks for replying. I checked the rateyourprofessor site and it didn't have the instructor on the site, maybe I have to pay for a subscription because it said that once you pay, you will get to see all feedbacks instead of only the most recent.
But thanks for the reply. If I can't find out what this Olsen is like then I guess I'll take the class with Hoppes.
Thanks again for the reply!

Close to a year ago I posted a message asking about Reed Olsen. Well, I took his class and made it through it.
I took the ECO 165 and it was difficult for me but I manage to get through it. He is definately not an easy instructor, but if you know Economics fairly well, you'll probably get an least a 'B' out of the course if not an 'A'. Dr. Olsen always increases quizes and test by 10% so you have a chance of making 110% if you get all the questions correct. That 10% is a big help.
The further you get into the course, the more difficult it will get. If you don't understand any part of Economics in any way, Dr Olsen will lose you. Around eight weeks into the course he will put all kinds of stuff on the board and if you don't understand all the concepts, you will walk out of the room in a daze.
But overall, it is a good instructor to take. He is difficult, but if you make it through his class, you will learn a few things. Oh yeah, all test are multiple-choice but they are difficult. Average scores on the test are 70s.
Some things that are good about him, he knows his stuff very well, he loves to cuss. He uses words like "Damn" "Greedy" "Bastard". I guess those aren't really consider cuss words anymore, but those words still gets a reaction out of the students. Because most students are expecting the instructor to say anything that isn't professional.
If I had to take this course again or with if I had to take another economics course, it would be with Dr. Olsen.
