Lake Worth man accused of 'political attack' on girlfriend

WEST PALM BEACH – An 18-year-old Marine recruit remained in jail on Wednesday, charged with threatening to stab his girlfriend over her choice for president, news partner NewsChannel 5 reported in its noon broadcast.

The enlistee, Steven Scott Soper, of Lake Worth, became enraged Tuesday night when his 18-year-old girlfriend said she was leaving him -- and voting for John Kerry for president.

Soper, who will enter the Marines as soon as he passes the GED test, solidly supports Bush. He allegedly told girlfriend Stacey Silheira, "You'll never live to see the election."

Palm Beach Sheriff's Office deputies called to the home in Lake Worth said they had to use a Taser – an electronic stun gun – to subdue Soper. They described Soper as enraged and said he was holding Silheira captive. He was armed with a screwdriver and threatening to stab her in the neck, they said. When Silheira eventually broke free a deputy fired the Taser, shocking him into submission.

Charged with aggravated assault, Soper remains in jail without bond until he undergoes a psychiatric exam, NewsChannel 5 reported.

gee i thought my boyfriend was a little crazy when i told him that i was voting for Carnahan for senator last election. i only got lecture after lecture and email after email for about 2 months straight why Talent was better. i guess i should count my blessings.

So there's this kid in the airport, waiting to catch a flight with his mother. Kid goes to the restroom, sees a jarhead standing at a urinal. Kid says to the jarhead, "Excuse me sir, are you a real Marine?" Jarhead says, "Sure am, son, would you like to wear my hat?" Kid says, "Sure!" Puts on the jarheads hat and skips around the corner.

Once around the corner, kid runs into a SEAL. Looks at him, says, "Wow, are you a real Navy SEAL?" SEAL looks at the kid and mutters, "Why, you want to suck my dick?"

Kid says, "Oh no sir, I'm not a real Marine, I'm just wearing his hat."

this is a story of very exteme people. most republican or marines don't act that way. it is the one or two that seem to give them a bad name.

He wasn't even a Marine. He was a recruit who hadn't yet been accepted since he didn't even have a GED. Thanks to irresponsible reporting, the story was twisted to make it appear he was a Marine. More sensational that way.

Is it really that hard for our media to report the truth? Personally it just really irritates me when people twist the truth and publish it. I guess that is why I no longer watch the news. What happened to the gold old fashioned just tell the truth? Is there any truth in life now days?
