We are on our third speech too. It really sucks. As far as topics, these are some my teacher suggested: Stem Cell Research, Hydrogen powered automobiles, Cloning, Homeland Security, and the Supreme Court. Not sure how interesting an audience would find them.

Some choices others in my class are doing: CPR, sleep deprivation, and college debt.

Hope this helps you come up with an idea.

Im doing child abuse for my 3rd speech. I found lots of good resources (including classified crap that I permanent markered the names out of) to use from my work so it should be interesting.

Hmmm, do a speech on BearNotes!

Not the American Diet. There's about 6 people doing it.

Great idea, except for that whole lack of sources thing. Anyway I am doing mine on cloning. Have absolutely no clue what to talk about though.

There are plenty of sources for BearNotes.

Speaking of speeches, anyone have any advice on visual aids? I am absolutely clueless on what to use and how to use it.

I made my third and fourth speeches easier on myself by first picking an issue I could inform on, and then using the same topic for speech 4. For my last two speeches, I did the PATRIOT Act.

Two strategies that might work out:

1. Base it off something you like, like a hobby or something. I saw a lot of people do well with that; say, if it was baseball, they'd talk about their favorite team for speech 3, then, say, argue against Pete Rose being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for speech 4.

2. Go to a news site, like Yahoo News, drudgereport.com, local newspaper, whatever...look at the top ten stories and pick your issue based on which article sounds most appealing.

The guy teaching my class was pretty specific on what he wanted. He told me I couldn't do a speech on a hobby because it was not "significant" or "relevant" to the audience. He also rejected several other topics that were interesting.

In that case, do something on censorship and intolerance within higher education.
