Fuck the kids, save the trees! (and other news tidbits)

When in War, Plant Trees

A UN-backed Palestine rehabilitation program has developed a useful method to deal with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Excerpted from UN News Centre

"The new initiatives included a project to replant one million trees in the Palestinian territories by the Association for Agricultural Relief in Palestine and the Al-Arabiah for Nature Protection, in cooperation with ESCWA."
Is it just me? Children are dying at a rate of three per day, so let's save the trees?

What is a Soldier's Life Worth?

Apparently soldiers' lives are worth more than the average American. Al Qaeda spent roughtly $130 per person to kill 2,974 Americans on 9/11. In Iraq, Al Qaeda operatives are paying significantly more to attack U.S. and coalition soldiers.
Informant's Tip Foils Another Bomber
Excerpted from American Forces Press Service

Forward Operating Base Speicher's force protection cell developed the informant's tip, and Task Force 1-18 scouts conducted a raid in Sequor to kill or capture the suspected car-bomb maker.

The suspected insurgent was detained, and the scouts confiscated 2.5 million Iraqi dinar, $3,000, a 9 mm pistol, detailed strip maps of the forward operating base, plastic explosives and a car that was rigged to be what military officials call a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device.
Why is the UN so against Israel?

Today I read a report (A/59/165 Part II) from the General Assembly regarding nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. Although I expected the report to cover the overall scope of the issue, it singled out Israel in the first section:
"(b) Reaffirmed the importance of Israel's accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation on Nuclear Weapons and placement of all its Agency safeguards, in realizing the goal of universal adherence to the Treaty in the Middle East (para. 2);

(c) Called upon that State to accede to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons without further delay ..."
What's the deal? Why does the UN feel it's necessary to repeatedly launch attacks against Israel?

Interesting response regarding the UN's attack on Israel from a U.S. Army Captain and semi-retired special forces member:
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

The UN general assembly is quite democratic in that regard.

Israel is far outnumbered by enemies - and countries that should know better choose to ignore the issue.

The Arab world - along with their idelogical brethren in the greater Islamic world - is now attempting to do through the UN what it was unable to do by force - destroy Israel. Ironically, they try to destroy it with the very body that created it (at least in it's current form).

If the UN continues to do this, there will surely be trouble.
