Ethic Me
Cover me
ethically
into the social void
lie to me
tell me things
we all know to avoid
why tell me to be open
why tell me to be kind
why tell me to be somthing more
when all the world says mine
simple words of better days
my life will never see
simple minds
the current times
we're brought up ethic-me

Poetry
It's good...I like it. I've written some things fairly similiar. Have you ever tried to publish it? I only ask because, while I enjoy this type of poetry, and write similarly, I have been told repeatedly by poetry professors at SMS that this type of rhyming poetry is not considered contemporary professional poetry and therefore not really publishable in legitimate periodicles. Personally I have a bit of a problem with that whole philosophy...but nevertheless that is what I've been told.
When it all comes down to it though...I like your poem, and I like that style. And regardless of who says what about contemporary professionalism, I will continue to write little rhyming poems like that...and you should too. Post more!

Who cares what the teachers say? I was told I couldn't write a fantasy poem, so how would I classify my poem? My poem was based on a dream - it was purely fantasy - there WAS no other classification for it. Is Dr. Suess not poetry? There's no such thing as a Thing1 or Thing2, and they never stood for years while a highway was built around them. There is no Cat in a Hat that broke your Credenza. . . but we still love his work for their imagination, creativity, and for some moral lessons. I've never written a poem for a class that was based on anything realistic, because those I would not share with a room full of class mates unless abstracted beyond recognition.alien8ed wrote:. . . Anyway - back to the point - your poem has good flow and does a great job at illustrating the conflict of values in modern times. . . I like it.
As far as anyone else - who cares what the teachers tell you. . . if you like it, it's good enough for it's purpose. If others like it, even better. I've read some of the professors' works. . . don't kid yourself. They're not prodigies either!
Professors. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.alien8ed wrote:I have been told repeatedly by poetry professors at SMS that this type of rhyming poetry is not considered contemporary professional poetry and therefore not really publishable in legitimate periodicles.

Ethic?
Do you mean "ethically" or "ethnically"? The two are different words.
