Easiest way for Windows people that don't know what IRC is and whatnot:
1. Goto www.mirc.com.
2. Download mIRC.
3. Install. Open.
4. Window pops up. Enter full name where it says full name. Then e-mail address where it says e-mail address. Pick a nickname where it says nickname, and an alternative nickname where it says alternative. (Quite straightforward eh?)
5. On the left side, click on the server tab which is in the connect category. On the IRC network menu, select zIRC. Under IRC server, select random server.
6. On the left side, select the Identd tab. Just enter some short word under User ID. Check the "Enable IdentD server" box.
7. Select okay at the bottom left.
8. Press the lightning bolt looking connect button at the top left.
9. Status window will say bunch of things, blah blah blah, you'll be connected sometime or another.
10. Once connected, hopefully something called Nickserv won't yell at you for using a registered nickname. If it does, change it via typing "/nick TYPENEWNICKHERE." (i.e., to change to "bob" type /nick bob).
11. Once you get whatever nick you'd prefer to keep, type "/nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL." So if your password is DICK and your e-mail is COCK@SUCKER.COM, you would type "/nickserv register DICK COCK@SUCKER.COM". For you grammar Nazis, the period is outside the quotation marks because it's not part of the command.
12. Once registered, hooray. Type "/join #SMSU" and you will be in the SMSU chat channel. I'll try to stick around a lot.
Any questions, ask.
