So BearNotes.com got hacked about a year ago, and since it had been pretty much dead for a while, I didn't really care and just let it go. At the time the forum was just throwing errors, so I didn't really know what had happened. Then in late March, I got some notification e-mails from Google, letting me know the site had been black listed. I attempted to go to it, but Firefox block it with a warning. Google Chrome did the same thing. Internet Explorer, however, would just let me straight through to the site. There's an interesting thing for you to compare the security features!

So, I started looking into it, found malicious code had been injected into nearly every page hosted on my server. I assumed it was my fault for not letting keeping the software (phpBB) up to date. After some more research, it seemed that a LOT of people that hosted sites with the same provider were having similar problems, all the way down to the same code injected into their pages.

So now, I am on a new server with a new provider. I have updated the software, restored the forums, and cleared the 15,000+ spam bots that had attempted to register accounts on BearNotes. Don't worry, none of them could validate themselves or gain information from the system, unless perhaps it was posted in the forum messages.

Yeah, Firefox wasn't letting me in. Eventually, I stopped trying. I started hanging out at the Moxie Cinema boards a few years ago, but they recently dropped their boards without notice. I have no connection with MSU anymore. I graduated. I basically visited places like this because of their connection to my town, but activity on local boards is unpredictable. Anyway, there's facebook now.
