Welcome back BearNotes posters...
A change:
Moderators and Administrators are now the only ones that can edit and delete posts in most forums. Be sure that what you want to say is clear the first go round.
Please change your password frequently. A modification will be installed later that will allow passwords of only a certain complexity.

Yes, it does...it pisses me off that both someone would stoop so low as to hack someones account AND that such an easy password was used for this account
.
The changes should prevent someone from doing that again. Oh, I almost forgot, username changes are not allowed. But hey, this is still a free and open board in the sense that the mods and I allow almost anything to be posted. So go have fun...

I've seen Admins try this in alot of other forums. We're gonna end up with a billion posts in every thread, people correcting themselves and leaving things out. Bad move IMHO. What happened yesterday shouldv'e been caught after the account was first hacked and all the posts were edited so much. For those of you who only thought the name had been changed once, it had actually been changed a few times. Should have been caught and blocked by mods. tsk tskModerators and Administrators are now the only ones that can edit and delete posts in most forums

I thought the sudden change in his posting and name and all that stuff was kind of strange - but I guess I just overlooked it too. I don't think names should be changeable, as that is kind of your ID and how everyone knows who you are. Posts in my opinion should remain editable as stated earlier, however I can definitely understand the reasoning.

If there was a way to set a 1-hour time limit, after which a post could no longer be edited or deleted, that would be ideal. Is there?HatePirate wrote:I've seen Admins try this in alot of other forums. We're gonna end up with a billion posts in every thread, people correcting themselves and leaving things out. There is a modification (and if anyone knows of a better one let me know) that allows you to write something, save it (without posting it) and come back later and edit more and then post. This isin't exactly what you asked for, but it is one option. However, we cannot have a repeat of the other day. It makes me sick that a users posts, indeed his very identity, was erased. I had a backup, but that did not have the last 10 or so users that registered so I decided not to use it.
