Is anyone here in "Religion in America" or have taken it? Just wanting to strike up convo.

What did you think of the class? So far it's just history. I almost regret taking it because I'm not a big fan of history, but what can you do? Like you said, it is interesting so far.

it just opened up my eyes to a lot of different cultures. That's what I found so interesting about it. Also, the having to go to different types of churches is a good experience. It's nice to actually get a chance to view some different religions first hand.

I guess you're right. I think I might be a little closed-minded about the whole thing. things will probably change after I do the field experience. Thanks for the insight, lace.

I dislike the requirement to experience other religious affiliations. If one wanted to be more open minded, they have that choice (outside of school). But for it to be necessary in order to receive a grade in a class, I think it is completely ridiculous. What about those that are dedicated and devote most of their time to a particular ministry? Must they forfeit their church’s events to attend another’s so that their instructor can read a paper that (s)he is more than likely familiar with?

You can read a book about computers but when you get done you will forget most of it. If you sit with the book AND a computer you will retain SO MUCH MORE.

i took REL100,

i too am not very apt to enjoy being required to attend some religious ceremony with which i have no affiliation. although, i would personally imagine that to be somewhere in the small print before even considering taking even a somewhat specified religion class...

im not sure if theres much difference between 100 and 131 or not, im just glad that my professor was pretty cool in that he didnt expect us to experience anything, more or less just to gain some knowledge and understanding of the religions we covered at large. and that was kind of what i was going for.
